Crying Boys

Until the 14th of November 2021, you can watch the series ‘Crying Boys’ by photographer Noah Valentyn at Muiderslot caste. One of the most deeply held ideas about masculinity is that men don’t cry. This was not the case in the Middle Ages: in that period of time, it was quite normal for men to shed their tears in public. Wandering through the rooms of the medieval castle, you will come across the portraits of Valentyn. Modern young men with different backgrounds who show the authenticity of a person with their tears.

About Noah Valentyn

Noah Valentyn (1986) is an actor and photographer. After his education at the Amsterdam Theater and Kleinkunst Academie, he played (leading) roles in films and TV series. From 2008 to 2014, he lived, worked and studied in New York and Los Angeles. There he did an internship in the studio of James Bidgood, who inspired well-known photographers such as Pierre & Gilles and David LaChapelle. Since 2015, he lives in Amsterdam where he has set up his own photography and film studio together with Alain-Celest de Buck, called DepartFrom.

Meet & Greet on October 10

On the 10th of October 2021, from 2 pm to 4 pm, Noah Valentyn himself will be present in the castle to tell more about his work. This Meet & Greet with the photographer is free for visitors to the castle. Book an online entrance ticket in advance.
