All ships passing by had to pay a toll at Muiderslot Castle. Floris made a tidy sum from this.<\/p>\n<p>Floris is popular among the local farmers. He helps them and offers them shelter in his castle when the enemy approaches. This is unusual, as it was not often the case in those days for a member of the nobility to help the \u2018common people\u2019.<\/p>\n            <\/div>\n            \n         <\/div>\n\n      <\/div>\n\n   <\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"my-12 lg:my-24\"  name=\"text\">\n   <div class=\"container\">\n\n      <div class=\"grid lg:grid-cols-2  gap-4 lg:gap-12 xl:gap-24\">\n\n         <div class=\"\">\n                           <div class=\"text-lg font-heading font-semibold\">Trapped in his own castle<\/div>\n                        <h2 class=\"text-h2 font-heading font-bold\">The murder of Floris V<\/h2>\n         <\/div>\n\n         <div class=\"\">\n            <div class=\"prose text-lg\">\n               <p>In his spare time, Floris is passionate about falconry: hunting with birds of prey. But it does not end well\u2026 During a falconry hunt in 1296, his \u2018friends\u2019 capture him and imprison him in his own Muiderslot. The local peasants try to come and free him, but their attempt fails. Shortly afterwards, Floris is brutally murdered near the castle.<\/p>\n<p>Little remains of Muiderslot after the murder; Floris\u2019s enemies destroy the castle. It is not until around 1370 that Muiderslot is rebuilt and even expanded. <\/p>\n            <\/div>\n            \n         <\/div>\n\n      <\/div>\n\n   <\/div>\n<\/section>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Floris V (1254\u20131296) was Count of Holland.
