From January 16 to March 22, 2026, the temporary exhibition Soft! will be on display at the Muiderslot! With Soft! the Muiderslot brings back a vibrant art form within its ancient walls.

Textile art at the Muiderslot.

Where once rich tapestries exuded warmth, status and craft, now several contemporary textile artists show how powerful, innovative and surprisingly modern textile art is today. In collaboration with Rademakers Gallery, we present a special exhibition that invites you to look at textiles with new eyes.

Leading Artists

For Soft!, several leading artists are filling the castle with work that provokes, energizes, surprises, and entices. The exhibition features works by Sofie Aaldering, Sina Dyks, Kiki van Eijk, Kelly Konings, Alfhild Sarah Külper, and Simone Post. Together, these female artists demonstrate what textile art stands for: fresh, bold, exploratory, contemporary, and in constant motion.

Why at Muiderslot?

For centuries, tapestries and textiles were the heart and soul of castle interiors. Richly woven tapestries, curtains, and textile coverings brought warmth, color, and status to the castle. They provided insulation against the cold, absorbed sound, and served as a form of display: visitors could tell from the textiles just how powerful and distinguished the residents were. With Soft!, this heritage returns, but in a modern form. Old and new come together in a colorful dialogue throughout the castle.
