Freedom Dinner at Muiderslot

On May 5, 2026, Muiderslot, in collaboration with partners from Gooise Meren, will host a Freedom Dinner to celebrate Liberation Day! This annual celebration has become a cherished tradition at Muiderslot, precisely because the castle played a special role in the history surrounding World War II and the liberation of 1945.
The Freedom Dinner is free; registration is required, and the program is fully wheelchair accessible.

The meal begins with a group toast to freedom, after which we’ll eat together and engage in conversation. Author and documentary filmmaker Naeeda Aurangzeb will lead the evening. Nol Verhagen, chair of the Bussum Historical Society and editor of the Bussum Historical Journal, will give a lecture on the war and liberation in Bussum. And Xander Gallois, a classical composer, pianist, writer, and singer, will provide live music. We actively invite attendees to share their thoughts, questions, and personal experiences regarding freedom, oppression, and democracy.
