Writers in residence
In the footsteps of P.C. Hooft
Reading, writing and the Muiderslot have belonged together for centuries. Following in the footsteps of writer and poet P.C. Hooft, the Muiderslot invites creators to be inspired by the castle, its gardens and the surrounding landscape. Writing, thinking and making are given space here.
Writer in Residence: Hizir Cengiz (2021)
Author and poet Hizir Cengiz stayed at the Muiderslot in September 2021 as the first Writer in Residence. During his residency, he was inspired by the castle and its history. He also hosted the Hooftpodium, a program combining literature and performance.
Spoken word during the Week of Poetry (2022)
During Poetry Week 2022, the Muiderslot organized a Hooftpodium with spoken word. Artists such as Hasan Gök, Nour Bayard and Soumaya Bazı brought poetry and performance to the castle. Their work explores personal stories, emotions and social themes and shows how contemporary spoken word connects to a long tradition of recitation and literature at the Muiderslot.
25 poets on love (2023)
In June 2023, 25 Dutch poets followed in the footsteps of 17th-century writer and poet P.C. Hooft. They stayed for a month as Writers in Residence at the Muiderslot and went in search of the true nature of love poetry. From different backgrounds and perspectives, they wrote new work inspired by this historic place. The poems were included in the collection of the Muiderslot.
Writer in Residence: Linda Dielemans (2025)
In 2025, Linda Dielemans was Writer in Residence. She is a writer and archaeologist and writes books in which fantasy and historical knowledge come together. Her stories are set in prehistory and the Middle Ages and bring the past to life for young and old alike.
