Herb Garden
The Kruidhof
With the produce from the gardens, delicious meals were prepared in the castle for centuries. The medicinal herbs also provided a home pharmacy. With the dye herbs, yarn, wool and fabrics could be colored naturally.
The Kruidhof was also a meeting place. The residents of the castle received important guests here. The austere garden layout, the hedges and trees trimmed in special shapes and the rare plant species impressed many a visitor.
Muiderslot melange
Tea from the herb garden of the Muiderslot – that’s something tea sommelier Robert Schinkel won’t allow himself to say twice. He visits the castle for the very first time and is surprised by what he finds in the garden. From the Kruidhof he tells more about how tea found its way to the Netherlands and how our tea culture originated.
