A play about being yourself and living together

Performance: Free Birds

In the early years of school, children get to know themselves and discover how to find their place within a group. In *Vrije Vogels*, they meet funny, touching, and headstrong birds who each discover in their own way what it means to play together, work together, and live together.

The Little Chicken and the Bread: Little Chicken wants to play with them, but Pig, Duck, and Cat would rather do their own thing. When Little Chicken bakes a loaf of bread all by herself, they suddenly want to join her for a bite. Is that really fair?

The Winter King: The birds don’t think the lion can be the king of the birds. They want to choose their own king. But how do you do that? Together with the birds, children discover the basics of democracy, making choices, and living together.

How Dove Found His Own Voice: Nightingale and Dove listen to the sounds of the forest and turn them into a song. Nightingale’s song is beautiful, but Dove has heard only one sound. When the animals laugh at him, he feels insecure. Together, Nightingale and Dove discover that “being different” is valuable, too.
