Summer Vacation – A Castle Full of Adventure
This summer vacation, it’s party time at Muiderslot Castle! There’s something new to discover and experience every day. Every Thursday and Friday, you can enjoy circus performances and interactive theater. There are also creative workshops, exciting water activities, and a surprising presentation on tropical plants from the 17th century.
Let nature, stories, theater, and games sweep you away this summer. One thing is for sure: you won’t be bored at Muiderslot this summer! You can find the entire summer vacation program below.
Circus Elephant
In the past, too, the castle’s residents loved to be entertained. Maybe today you’ll be the star of the show. At Circus Olifant, you don’t just watch—you join in, too. Try your hand at juggling, play the clown, or test your balance.
Circus Olifant will be performing in the courtyard of Muiderslot this summer on July 9, 16, 23, and 30, and on August 6 and 13, 2026.
Interactive Theater: “I’m Going to Be a Very Happy Little Fish”
First, they do crafts; then they join in the show. During this interactive theater experience, children make their own sailor hats. Then, together with Sailor Koos, they embark on a fun-filled adventure full of music, stories, and surprises.
You’re welcome to join in: there’s singing, playing, and exploring. “I’m Going to Be a Very Happy Little Fish!” takes place three times a day on the following Fridays during summer vacation: July 17, 24, and 31, and August 7 and 14.

Young or old, together or alone: everyone can join in.

Free play at the playground
In our green playground children can have fun among the cannons, the climbing ship, the slide and the willow tunnel. The playground is adventurous and accessible to everyone. Meanwhile, parents can relax on the terrace of Museum Café The Garden Room, with a view of playing children.
Tropical Plants
The “Tropical Plants” exhibition is on display in the Muiderslot Castle gardens through August 30. Discover how plants from all over the world found their way to Muiderslot and the stories behind them. Through various plants, you’ll learn more about trade, cultural exchange, and the colonial past. You’ll see how nature and history come together in the castle gardens.
Children’s Theater
Every month, there is a new theater performance for children ages 5 and up in the charming castle chapel of Muiderslot Castle. From fairy tales to exciting knight stories, the performances are full of humor, imagination, and audience interaction. On July 5, the performance “The Stories of King Monkey” will be staged, and on August 2, “Hansje Brinker—About Water and Dikes” will be performed. Each performance begins at 2:00 p.m. and lasts up to 45 minutes. The cost is €5 per person with a valid admission ticket.
Water Week
Water and Muiderslot Castle go hand in hand. During Water Week, July 13–19, you’ll discover why water has always been—and still is—so important to the castle.
There’s plenty to do for all ages. Join a SUP tour around the castle, take part in creative workshops at the Kasteelatelier, or learn more about water through fun activities organized by the Water Board.
