The Green Castle. Group 4-8

Did you know that the Muiderslot was once completely self-sufficient? In the 17th century, fragrant herbs, fresh vegetables and juicy fruit grew in the gardens - everything the residents needed for their daily lives. And even inside the castle walls, nature was everywhere.
A group of children are taught in the vegetable garden at the Muiderslot. They look at red cabbage.

An educational and sensory program full of history, sustainability and creativity.

In this program, together with a museum docent, students discover how man and nature have been connected for centuries. They smell herbs, learn about ancient eating habits and discover how sustainable life in the castle used to be. What can we learn from that today?

After the interactive garden tour, students put their imaginations to work during a creative assignment in the Castle Workshop. What does a green future look like? And what can they do themselves to live greener?

Themes: past and present, people and nature, subsistence living, eating habits, biodiversity, ecological footprint

Special education groups are welcome at the Muiderslot. We like to take into account the specific needs of students. A class is therefore divided into two groups by default, each with its own museum teacher.

Een groep kinderen krijgt les over hoe de mens en natuur al eeuwenlang verbonden zijn. De museumdocent laat de kinderen specerijen ruiken op een lepel.
