Garden volunteer Green Heritage

Working in a historic garden under the direction of a hortulanus. A team of enthusiastic Green Heritage volunteers maintains the gardens of the Muiderslot and processes products from the garden.

Who we are.

Near Amsterdam for centuries there has been a magical place by the water: Rijksmuseum Muiderslot. The best-preserved medieval castle in the Netherlands, surrounded by unique historic gardens. Every year many visitors from home and abroad enjoy the Muiderslot, a lively place where regularly changing activities take place. The gardens of the Muiderslot were first laid out in the 17th century. To enjoy, to show off and to eat out. The greenery is maintained by a team of enthusiastic Green Heritage volunteers under the direction of a hortulanus. From March through October there is most activity in the gardens. But even in winter, weather permitting, work continues.

What will you do?

Seeding, growing and (especially) maintaining the historic castle gardens.
Inform visitors about the gardens and the crops (flowers, vegetables, herbs) that grow there.
Enjoy working outside in a friendly team of volunteers, with of course a break in time.

What do you bring?

You are hospitable to visitors.
You have green fingers.
You are an approachable person.
Your physical health is such that you can perform light landscaping work.
You are basically available one half-day per week.
You can provide a Certificate of Good Conduct. This can be requested through us free of charge.
