Fall is settling in around Muiderslot Castle. With the gardens changing colors, crisp days, and the imposing castle, there’s plenty to discover both inside and out.
An Autumn Full of Stories
Fall brings another new season full of stories, activities, and experiences to Muiderslot Castle. Every season has its own unique atmosphere and offerings, and this fall, too, there’s plenty to discover both indoors and outdoors.
For centuries, Muiderslot has been a place where people come together. The writer and poet P.C. Hooft once lived here and welcomed guests into his castle and gardens. This fall, we’re continuing that tradition of storytelling, gathering, and sharing experiences. Come on out, step inside the castle walls, and discover the stories that await you this season.
October: History Month
This year’s theme is “Body & Mind.” Under the motto “Discover yesterday, understand today,” we’ll use a variety of activities to help you explore themes from the past that remain relevant today. In this way, history invites us to reflect on the way we think, live, and view ourselves today.
Knights and Crafts Weekend 2026
Experience Muiderslot in a medieval atmosphere during the Knights and Crafts Weekend on October 17 & 18. Discover ancient crafts, listen to medieval music, and watch the thrilling knight shows up close. Scattered throughout the castle grounds, both indoors and outdoors, you’ll encounter artisans and unique characters, and children can even step into the shoes of a knight themselves. For two days, stories, music, craftsmanship, and spectacle come together at Muiderslot Castle.
Writer in Residence 2026: Pim Lammers
During this Children’s Book Week (October 5–9), Muiderslot Castle will welcome a special guest author. Author and poet Pim Lammers will be working on a new project in the Ridderzaal, inspired by the castle, its history, and the surrounding landscape. Come see how ideas take shape, meet Pim, get a book signed, and discover how a story comes to life in a place that has inspired writers for centuries.
Historical Tastings
A unique culinary experience! During the Historical Tastings, the castle chef will guide you through Muiderslot Castle and, weather permitting, through the castle gardens as well. Along the way, discover how people used to eat and what ingredients were on the menu. This culinary journey through the Middle Ages and the 17th century ends with a special tasting. You can join the tour on October 10 & 24 and November 7. Be sure to sign up quickly, as spots are limited.
Lecture: Harvest & Muiderslot Castle
How did the castle get through the winter? During this special morning event on October 7, organized in collaboration with the Gooi+ Muiden Library, you’ll discover how Muiderslot Castle prepared for the colder months throughout the centuries. From storing the harvest and supplies to working in the castle gardens: fall tells a surprising story about daily life at the castle. The morning begins with a lecture at the library. Afterward, you’ll walk together to Muiderslot Castle for a tour of the gardens and the castle.
Fall Break at Muiderslot Castle
Come visit Muiderslot this fall break! Explore the castle and museum, listen to exciting stories on the audio tour (also suitable for children), and stroll along the centuries-old ramparts. In the Castle Workshop, you can get creative with activities that change daily. Outside, kids can climb and play to their hearts’ content in the nature playground.
Yoga, Mindfulness, and Art
Want to take a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life? At Mindful Muiderslot on October 10, yoga, mindfulness, and art come together. After a relaxing yoga session in the Castle Chapel, you’ll stroll through the castle and view various paintings from the collection together. By looking consciously and attentively, you might discover something you hadn’t noticed before and experience art and history through a new lens.
Sensory-friendly opening
Experience Muiderslot in a peaceful setting on October 24. Are you sensitive to sensory stimuli, for example due to autism, acquired brain injury (ABI), burnout, depression, or a physical condition? During this low-stimulation open house, you can visit the castle and its collection in a peaceful environment, with fewer visitors and fewer stimuli than during regular opening hours.
Family Theater This Fall
Is it windy outside and are the first raindrops falling? Come on in to the cozy Castle Chapel. This season, there are two special performances on the program: *Alone in the World* on October 4 and *Wings* on November 1. Every first Sunday of the month, there’s family theater at Muiderslot Castle. Be sure to reserve your tickets early, as seating is limited.
Castle Workshop Classes: New Series Starting September 21
Looking for a creative space where your child can have fun and experiment after school? In the Castle Workshop Classes, children ages 7 to 12 get to work with various materials and techniques, from painting and drawing to printmaking and textiles. The castle, the gardens, and the collection serve as a constant source of inspiration. In small groups, children are given the space to explore their own ideas, try new things, and grow through their creative work.
Kasteel Cooking Club: Fall Series Starting October 9
Cooking together in the historic castle kitchen. In the Castle Cooking Club, children ages 8 to 12 cook alongside the castle chef in the historic kitchen of Muiderslot Castle. During the fall-themed sessions, they’ll get hands-on with pumpkins, apples, pears, nuts, and Brussels sprouts; discover traditional flavors and techniques; and even grow their own mushrooms. This series isn’t just about learning to cook—it’s all about exploring, tasting, and creating on their own.

Are there surcharges for special activities?
Yes, surcharges may apply for special activities or events.
Can I take a stroller to the Muiderslot?
Yes, you can. You can take a stroller around the grounds and castle square. The castle itself is not accessible with a stroller because of stairs and narrow passages. You can park the stroller dry under the arches in the castle square.
Can I bring my own food and drink?
In museum café De Tuinkamer and in the castle it is not allowed to eat your own food and drinks. On the grounds of the Muiderslot there are picnic tables where you can eat your own food.
Is there an audio tour for children?
No but the current free audio tour is suitable for children.
