History of the stage

The stage tradition at Muiderslot castle started in the 17th century, when the poet and writer P.C. Hooft resided at the castle. He loved theater, music, and lively gatherings and frequently invited creative friends to Muiderslot castle for fantastic evenings filled with theater, music, readings, and poetry. The staff served drinks and meals. Read more about the group of friends that later became known as the Muiderkring (Muider Circle). It is extraordinary that this oldest stage in the Netherlands is still in use. And it is the only one in the country!

Performances

The castle and its gardens are a fairytale backdrop for concerts and theater performances. Keep an eye on the agenda to find out when music and theater performances are programmed. Did you know that you can also rent the stage for a show with your own group? For more information and options, contact us.

Will you join in?

Muiderslot castle wants to be a place for everyone, so our stage is not reserved for established companies and famous makers. We love to collaborate with amateurs and young makers from the neighboring villages and cities. Together, we can create fantastic productions. If you have a good idea and want to join us, please contact Fatma Bulaz.
