The Muiderslot has been surrounded by water for over 700 years. It is also part of four Dutch Water Lines. But was water a friend or foe to the castle? You can find out during a visit to the Water Pavilion behind the Muiderslot castle. Or by joining one of the many water activities on 20 or 21 August 2022!

There are water tours that keep your feet dry, but there are also activities that can get you soaking wet, such as suptours over the moat or water games.

Wet-footed tour; or suptour

The Muiderslot is the oldest moated castle in the Netherlands: a castle that stands ‘with its feet’ in the water. It’s not for nothing that it was built in a strategic location at the mouth of the river Vecht and the former Zuiderzee (now the IJmeer). During the tour the guide will tell you all about it. Suping is suitable for participants aged 12 years and older with swimming certificate. Experience with the sup is not necessary! Book your ticket for the sup tour here.

Dry foot tour

Would you rather stay on the mainland? Then join one of our tour guides on the ramparts. During a water tour you will hear all about living in a moated castle through the years. This tour is particularly fun for adults. You can make reservations for the water tour here.

Water games for kids

For kids there is also plenty to do during the water weekend at the Muiderslot! There will be a so-called ‘water table’ on which you can build dams. There is also a water safari through the gardens and over the ramparts. With a fishing net and a magnifying glass you can explore the surroundings of the Muiderslot. Fun for kids between 6-11 years old. You can book the water safari here. And what about the ‘dry feet game’? Or bring out the artist in you, because we will paint with watercolor in the castle gardens, with water and nature as inspiration.

At the end of the day we will go plastic soup fishing: with a boat or a sup in the castle moat. If you dare, you can come fishing!
